Our story

Owner Mr.Udara Balamanage migrated to Australia back in 1999 with a dream of pursuing bachelor’s degree, but the connection he has to home country Sri Lanka is beyond a shadow of doubt.

“The festivals, ceremonies and rituals brighten our lives. It is the colourful dishes and sweets that we make with vibrant flavours and aromatic spices which capture the essence of our sun-soaked island, that bring us back to our childhood memories, all that we miss out due to the distance. After we moved to Cranbourne area in 2012, we struggled to find a place to fulfill our Sri Lankan grocery needs here in Cranbourne north”

The longing for homestyle cooking and the continuous need for authentic Sri Lankan cooking ingredients, sweets, and religious items. As well as more than 10 years of management experience in a leading Australian supermarket chain, drove him to bring Pelessa to life in 2017.
